Yellow Fever

Well you would be if you had yellow fever.
In Africa it occurs mainly in the savanna of West and Central Africa during the rainy season. Those mosquitoes sure like that rain.

South America has two different cycles of yellow fever. Sylvatic or Jungle yellow fever is a disease of monkeys and very occasionally if a human gets bitten by an infected mosquito a person can acquire this disease but it is very rare and usually this only happens to people working in tropical rain forest. Urban yellow fever is a disease that occurs in urban areas like cities.

The kind of mosquito that usually carries Yellow Fever virus is the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito and she sure likes biting humans. Unfortunately if this human already has the virus she spreads it to someone else. She needs the blood for her eggs.

Prevention

Yellow fever has spread because travelers have not had a vaccination. Obviously to prevent it get a vaccination. But sometimes that is not enough so try to avoid going to tropical places, wear long sleeve shirts and wear insect repellent.

To find out if you have yellow fever a simple blood test is needed.

Unfortunately there is no treatment only; rest and drink a lot of fluids. It usually takes a long period of time to recover. If you develop the toxic phase hospitalization is needed for supportive care.

This virus is only found in parts of South America and Africa and has been around for at least 400 years.
Many people who are infected only have mild symptoms much like flu.
If you ever have the misfortune of being diagnosed with yellow fever be aware that it can be deadly.
When you get yellow fever you turn yellow and usually get a very high fever thus the name yellow fever. The yellow skin is caused by an excessive amount of bile in the blood because the liver is effected (hepatitis).
Other problems may vary from headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, and backache. These symptoms appear 3-6 days after the infected mosquito's bite.
After a brief time, it could lead to shock, bleeding, kidney failure, liver failure and death. Only 15% of people get liver failure which is called the toxic phase and 50% of these people die.
