![]() Often people have mild illness with a fever and liver symptoms. Unfortunately a small amount of people develop hemorrhaging, encephalitis and eye disease.
At the onset of the illness there is extreme weight loss fever, dizziness, weakness and back pain. Recovery is usually within a week. 1% of people die. The most common long term complication is inflammation of the retina. 1-10% has some permanent vision loss. Vaccines available for non pregnant animals. No vaccines available for humans but working on them. Avoid blood of infected animals. Mosquito repellants. Supportive care. Antiviral have shown promise in animals.
It is named after a rift stretching 4000 miles from Jordan to Mozambique.
It is also a disease of cattle. Most cases occur in years when there is heavy rainfall as this allows many breeding sites for the mosquitoes. The main culprit is the mosquito Aedes.
Most people who are infected have close contact with domestic animals like sheep and goats.
This despised disease is Rift Valley Diseases.
It's a killer who murders both livestock and humans. Its terror spreads through the terrified victim's blood stream.
This is a viral disease caused by a bite from an infected female mosquito or contact from blood and bodily fluids from an infected animal.
