Several robots are now used to entertain humans such as:

v     Furbies - little dog creatures which can run around and move.

v     The X1846 – a robot with a remote controlled speaker phones and video camera eyes. They can move about and play pre-recorded jingles or display messages.

v     Lucky – designed by Disney is a robot dinosaur that walks on two legs and pulls around carts with flowers!

v     9/10 robots in existence today, are Industrial robots, which means they work for people in places like factories, laboratories, warehouses etc

v     Do you know the hardest thing for a robot to do is to walk!

v     Japan owns around 70% of all robots in the world!

v     In medical laboratories, robots handle dangerous chemicals such as blood or urine.

v     Robots are even used to clean up nuclear waste, travel underwater and even go to active volcanoes.

v     Some robots are now being used to help doctors, when they install fake hips and even some operations on the human eye!

v     Do you know the first person to make a robot was a Greek engineer in 270BC, he made organs and water clocks!

v     The word robot was made from a Czechoslovakian word, which means slave, servant or forced labour.

v     Some robots are shaped like human beings and these are called androids.

v     Japanese children are being kept safe by sensors telling parents where their children are when the go to school and when they come back.

v     Robots are being used today in one American hospital as an assistant for the doctor, for example it has 3 arms and can rotate 360 degrees and even helps take out operations!

~Robots used in the military~

The military is a very harsh place for humans, so this makes it logical to build robots to go and assist soldiers who are in a war.
