About Me: Ana

Hello, my name is Ana. I was born in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Recently I am living in the state of Pennsilvanya, in the United States. I came here when I was only eight years old. I remember that I only spoke Spanish and very little English, but when I began fourth grade I began to take English classes, and then I learned how to have a better understanding of the language. I learned to write, to read, to speak and to comprehend the language in a year, it wasn't perfect, but I was able to communicate more each month, now I can do all that without any problem. It pleases me to be biling because I'm able to communicate with two different languages, which brings me opportunities like ThinkQuest. I'm also in my second year of studying French as my third language. It seems to me a very interesting and amused language. I am also interested in learning German (which I will start taking next year), Portuguese, Italian, and Latin. I enjoy learning other languages and also other cultures. Some of my favorite pastimes are; to spend my free times with my friends, to listen to music, to meet new people, to travel, and to read, which I discovered not to long ago.

I'm an active person and I like to be involved in many school activities and also outside school activities. At the moment one of the programs that takes most of my time is Lincoln University Upward Bound Program. This program is designed to prepare High School students that want to attend college. This program gave me the opportunity of visiting new places, experimenting new activities that I used to think weren't interesting. Upward Bound has also helped me on my physical and social development. This program introduced me to ThinkQuest. One day the director of Upward Bound announced to me that he wanted me to join ThinkQuest. Of course, I accepted to join the program because this is a good opportunity to share my ideas and also my native language.

I just started not long ago as part of the group, but I feel comfortable because my teammates are patient with me and because I have the support from my parents. I'm also glad to be part of the group because my job is to translate the web page into Spanish, which is a job that I really enjoy. I think that ThinkQuest has given me the opportunity of working as I wanted. I get to work with other people from different backgrounds and I have the chance to work as a bilingual person. Being part of ThinkQuest is something very important and special to me, this is something I feel proud of and it is something that I know will have a great impact on me.

For my future I have many plans that I know I'm going to achieve with the help of my professors, with the support from my family, and of couse with the support that I'm receiving from Upward Bound. I want to attend a college of my choice and graduate with a good career that I really enjoy. For the moment, I'm not sure which career I want to study, but I'm really interested in something that is involved with communicating with other people, with traveling, and were I use the languages that I'm planning on learning. I'm a young lady is determined to make my dreams come true, this is what makes me think that I'm going to be able to achieve the goals that I have proposed for myself. Even though being a part of ThinkQuest is a challenge, I thank all the people who give me their support and that give me opportunities like this one.
