Non-Academic Pursuits
Education in Singapore is geared not only to the teaching of academic subjects, but also towards a holistic education, creating well-rounded future Singaporeans to compete and survive in the modern world.
Thus it is important for the future generation to experience emotional and psychological well being including being morally and socially responsible. All schools partake in the teaching of Character and Moral Education in order to give students a solid grounding of right and wrong and for them to understand the moral issues pertaining to the world today. This would provide students and future Singaporeans with a moral guiding compass that would serve to create civic minded and righteous citizens for our country, so that they would work for the betterment of the people.
Aesthetic Development is one way in which education helps to create the well-rounded, ideal, holistic character in young Singaporeans. This involves not only Art and Music Lessons but also Co-Curricular Activities and Enrichment Programmes that expose students to various art forms, as well as inculcate a sense of aesthetic appreciation in students, driving them towards understanding a sense of beauty in life, both on the surface and within.
Physical development is also very important in Singapore's education scene. This comes in the form of Co-Curricular Activities and Physical Education lessons in all schools, where students engage in physical activities and learn important health skills that encourage and guide students in developing themselves to become physically fit and healthy adults.
