Did you know....
- The speed of the most powerful cosmic radiations is so great that they cross our galaxy in less than 15min.
- In 1972, American scientist Bruce Partridge tried to detect radio waves from the future, using a prototype antenna placed on top of a mountain, which he directed towards the sky. The antenna didn't detect anything.
- If we were locked in a vacuumed and impenetrable chamber ,we would die in less than 5 minutes, because of the lack of air. But, according to quantum physics , the random movement of the molecules that we are made of would cause us , in a number of years that is written as 1* 1021, to be recomposed in the bio- molecular form that we had before we died and so to revive just like that!
- The Universe was formed out of a quantum ray that had a duration of 1 *10-82 seconds.
- The nearest star (with the exception of our Sun)is called Proxima Centauri (Alpha Centauri C).This is a red dwarf, slightly visible, discovered in 1915 and it is situated at 4.23 light-years(4*1013 km) from Earth.
- To travel with a speed of 600 km/h means to dilate time with a second every 5000 years.
- Normal black holes have a mass several times greater than the Sun, but the super massive ones are situated in the center of galaxies and can be hundred of millions times heavier. (The nearest black hole was announced on 14 January 2000;it's called V641 Sgr and it is situated 1600 light years away from Earth )
- Albert Einstein's studies have a large impact in our life ,although we may not realize it .Practical in each DVD player, photo or video camera, scanner , mobile phone or computer there is a part of the great scientist's work; all of those devices use the LASER effect which was made possible mainly because of Einstein's studies on the nature of light, stimulated emission and the photo electric effect .And of course we have to mention that if the GPS system wouldn't have been constructed using relativity ,it would have accumulated an error of 11 km every day
- Pulsars are the collapsed nucleuses of super massive stars ( that had exploded and were transformed in supernovas ) that are spinning very fast. Spherical shaped and having a diameter less than 1000 km, a pulsar is so dense, that a spoon of matter can weigh something like 1 billion tons. Of the pulsars that had their rotation speed carefully measured, the fastest is PSR B1937+214.The pulsar is situated in the Vulpecula constellation ,at a distance of 11700 light years and has a rotation period of 1,5578064949 milliseconds which is equivalent to 641,9282518 rotations / second!
