  When to Go
In the summer months Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor are very uncomfortable to visit so the best time to visit these areas is in the winter, although Cairo can get pretty cool in the winter. Summer is also the time when the Mediterranean coast is very crowded. March to May is the best time to enjoy the warm days without the crush of bodies on the beaches and the midday of high summer.

Money
Money is not a big deal in Egypt. You can spend as little and US$15 a day staying in the cheapest hotels and hostels, eating at local vendors, visiting only one historic site a day, and traveling on packed third-class trains.

Be aware of pickpockets around tourist sites, and avoid carrying money in your back pocket. Well-known brands of travelers cheques are accepted everywhere. American Express, Visa, MasterCard, JCB and Eurocards are accepted at various places. Visa and MasterCard can be used to obtain cash in advance at Banque Misr and National Bank of Egypt branches.

A 12% service charge applies in restaurants and hotels, and there is also a sales tax of 5–7%. At upper-end accommodations you may also have to pay a 1-4% tax, so you may find yourself paying a 23% tax.

In Egypt you can bargain and negotiate on anything, because it is a part of life here. Your room for the night, lunch, felucca you ride down the Nile in can all be negotiated. There are a few rules you must follow though:
Never offer a price that you're not prepared to pay.
Get a feel for the real price before you begin haggling.
Take your time and enjoy the friendly sport.
Remember that you're never obliged to buy anything – you wont offend anyone.
