Ski jumping became an Olympic sport in 1924 though the only event was the normal hill. The large hill event started in 1964, and then team events were introduced in 1988.

In this sport, a skier goes down a hill on a take-off ramp in an attempt to go as far as possible. Points are also awarded on a scale of 1 to 20 for style. Only men compete in ski jumping.

Ski jumping originated in Norway. Today the sport is popular in Scandinavia, Central Europe, and Japan.

The skis used in ski jumping are long and wide with parallel sides. Aerodynamics have become a huge factor in ski jumping.
