The sport of ice hockey was first included for men in the 1920 summer Olympics in Antwerp and for women in the 1998 Olympics. Hockey, as it is known in Canada and the United States, is a team sport that is played on ice. Players are on ice skates trying to score goals by controlling a puck with a hockey stick and putting it into the opponent’s net on the other side of the hockey rink. A team consists of six players on the ice at a time. One of these six is a goalkeeper who wears different gear and can use his hands. The other five are divided into two defensive players and three offensive players. These players are substituted in and out during the game.
