Science Fiction

One of the favorite pursuits of science fiction authors over the years has been to speculate on ways in which mankind will interact and deal with robots in the future. Some say humans and robots will live in harmony side-by-side. Others claim that radical groups will use them to take over the world. Still others foresee robots themselves taking over the world and destroying mankind in the process. And some simply portray bionic people as a reverie in a fun, un-philosophical manner, although several well known universities have come close to creating the same advancements that cartoonists were imagining in the 1900’s and 1970’s.

The following articles list a few common scenarios and a general analysis of the likelihood of each of these happening. Some have a better probability of occurring than others, though in reality, chances are that none will be an exact representation of what we will actually face in the future. We can only see where we are now and where we have come from—an accurate view of the future is all but impossible. Technology changes all the time, and we will probably not be able to predict what will really happen until it happens. Even so, it is often fun to speculate, and many have done so with fascinating results, often with a chilling resemblance to actual problems we could potentially encounter.
