The Interim Committee | Support | Concerns

The Interim Committee was a clandestine, high-level group created by Secretary of War Henry Stimson and approved by President Truman in May 1945. It was created to examine the effects that could result if the atomic bomb was used. The Committee was also the primary decision-making body for the atomic bomb and was made up of notable scientists and government and military leaders. Their primary task was to examine the pros and the cons of using the atomic bombs on Japan and make recommendations for its use (Interim Committee).
