E is the 5th letter of the American alphabet.

The egyptians used a symbol that stood for a boy shouting for joy. The Semites used a letter they called he that also represented a person shouting. The Phoenicians further simplified the figure so that it looks like a modern E that is backwards. The Greek letter is called epsilon. The Latin E finally represents the E we use today.
