We researched different cultures to see if culture influences the
relationship with your mom. We researched Europe (Italy, England, France), Asia
(Japan, China, Korea), Latin America ( Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador), India, and
Africa.
All cultures experience changes over time for many reasons.
Some of the reasons are education, health, religion, economic status, political
views. Many of these milestones are celebrated by adolescent girls and their
families. In American it might be like a sweet sixteen birthday
party. Hispanic cultures celebrate the change of a girl becoming a women at the
age of 15. This is called Quinceariera. In the Catholic Church when a girl
becomes of age (12) she is confirmed. In the Jewish community when a girl turns
12 she has a Bat Mitzvah. In Japan some where between 12 and 14 a girl
celebrates Mogi. These are some of the names of celebrations world wide where
girls are honored for becoming a woman.
