Ecuador

Ecuador is a very poor country. They mainly
live in huts with dirt floors. The girl's chores are mainly the cooking and the
cleaning. They are not as favored as the guys are. In their house holds they
don't talk back to the father. He is the head of the household. They honor and
respect him. Girls learn how to act like mothers early in life. When their
mother goes to the market the girls take care of the younger children. They are
also married at a younger age then most Americans. A girl is the only person who
can carry things on their heads. Guys are supposed to carry things on their
backs. If a man does carry a basket on his head he gets laughed at. Women and
girls were taught to weave and back then it was cool. Weaving is still practiced
today. Women and girls were mostly supposed to do the family chores such as:
family wash, sheep herding, and weaving! Ecuadorians also descended from the
Inca's. One half of the people live in the country while the other half lives in
cities. Most whites in Ecuador live in cities where there are open food markets.
There they sell things like food and handicrafts. 10% of the population is made
up of rich Europeans, 40% is made up of Indian, 40% is made up of Mestizo's
(part Indian, part white), and finally the last 10% is made up of African
Americans which were brought as slaves (but are now free). Education is required
by the law and is free. Although most children don't finish school. The main
language is Spanish. The main religion there is Roman Catholic. For this reason
most girls have to go through a special ritual. Most girls do what their mothers
did before them.
