Costa Rica

Mountains are all around the central valley which has the central plateau in
the middle of it. There are many Volcanoes in Costa Rica. 100 to be exact.
Don’t be afraid! Only seven still erupt. Christopher Columbus and his crew saw
this beautiful land. The indigenes people welcomed and greeted the explorers.
The indigenes people wore beautiful costumes and wonderful gold jewelry.
Because of this the explorers wanted and thought they would be able to find lots
of gold here. Costa Rica got it’s name, which means rich coast in the Spanish
language, because of what the indigenous people wore. Though there wasn’t much
gold found they did find furtive rich soil. Only about 10,000 indigenous people
still live there.
In Costa Rica if you are between the ages of 7 and 14 you go to school.
All of the kids were uniforms in blue or white shirts with blue pants or
skirts. You would study everything from Social Studies to how to protect the
rain forest in your own neighborhood. Now that’s a school I’d like to go to.
For fun kids go to the beach, play soccer, watch TV, or go to a movie.
Fitbol which means soccer in Spanish is one of the major sports in Costa Rica.
Kids are always playing it. Kids will play anywhere and everywhere.
Most of the time kids spend their time outside playing instead of indoors
Often time the locals refer to outsiders as gringos. In Costa Rica they
refer to themselves as either tico (for a man) or tica ( for a woman). This
means that they are friendly, helpful, relaxed and laid back. They aren’t
stressed out or hurried. They are also very environmentally aware. They like
this description of themselves.
