Some 10,000 years ago, Native Americans settled along the
coast of Chile. The Incas tried to up north but the natives didn’t allow them
to stay there. The next group came from Peru. They were trying to find gold.
But they weren’t allowed to stay either. Many other explorers and others
seeking to find treasure came to Chile. It gradually became settled by these
people. Even though no one found the gold they liked the land for farming.
GEOGRAPHY
Chile is long and narrow along the Pacific Ocean. It’s
the longest country in the whole wide world! There is much of the Andes
Mountains in Chile. The Atacama desert is in the north. It has a lot of copper
and other mineral wealth. In the south is many forests and plains. Also a line
of volcanoes and some lakes too.
