Adolescence

Adolescence is a stage where you are changing from a kid to an adult. It starts
around age 10 and ends by the time they are about 20. Before you become an
adolescent you are call a pre-teen. That is the ages 8 -12. This is also
nicknamed a tween. Which means you are between the ages of a child and a
teenager. During this period you will undergo physical changes and mental
changes. You’ll start
caring
more about your appearance. You will want to choose different role models from
your parents. Now you will look to movie stars, athletes, and singers.
Adolescents girls start to grow apart from their parents. Some kids go as far to
say "drop me a block away from school mom, I’ll walk the rest of the way." So as
you can see you start to become embarrassed of your parents. Even just being
seen with them can be embarrassing. Your relationship with your family dwindles.
Your friends take their place. You always want to spend time with them. You are
trying to find your own identity. You look to your peers and your new role
models leaving behind your parents and your family. You try to show your parents
that you are your own person and not a child anymore. Until the 20th
century this transition was quick. But now maturing and independence is
happening earlier and lasting longer.
