The history of the taxis in Singapore started with rickshaws (a “cart” pulled by manual labour) and trishaws (a cart driven by a person riding a bicycle). Taxi drivers are said to have seen more things than anyone else. They claim to seen all kinds of people that exist on the surface of the earth. From “aunties” to hunky celebrities, they have seen it all.
They have many ghostly experiences with the supernatural too.

Taxi drivers of Singapore speak the trademark language of Singapore—Singlish. This form of speaking is unique in Singapore, it is a salad bowl of English, dialects (Hokkien being the most often used), Chinese and whatsoever. “New” words are also “made in Singapore”, and found in the “Orchard Dictionary Of Singlish” A few such examples are “leh”, “lah”. Singlish is also a word of Singlish. Some Singlish words are portmanteaux, such as Singlish (Singapore + English) and Merlion (Mermaid + Lion). Hence, taking a Taxi exposes you to the culture of Singaporeans, in that it is a way of discovering our unique way of speaking.
