THE 7 WONDERS OF SINGAPORE

Fountain Of Wealth

Introduction

Made with bronze and covering a base area of 1,683 square metres, the fountain of wealth located at Suntec City is the world largest Fountain. It resembles a large tripod that has four legs. The perimeter of the circular ring is about 66 metres. The whole bronze frame weighs around 8885-tons. The water from the fountain shoots up to 30 metres in height. The five buildings of the Suntec City, which resembles five fingers of a hand poking out of the ground, surround the fountain. The fountain looks like a ring, and is situated in the middle of the hand—the palm. Hence, this symbolizes the retention of wealth as the “hand” clutches a “ring”.

What To Do There

Three times a day, the fountain will be turned off for visitors to have a chance to go up close to the fountain. They can also partake in a ritual, which involves walking round the fountain and feeling the water of the fountain with their hands. People believe that taking part in this activity brings good luck and offers a spiritual experience that one can never forget. Visitors can also make song and laser message dedications to friends, colleagues and their loved ones.

Significance Of The Fountain

The Fountain of Wealth has been accorded the status of "World's Largest Fountain" in the 1998 edition of the Guinness Book of Records. It has also been the most visited tourist destination in Singapore. When the Amazing Race, a reality show came to Singapore, the contestants collected a clue at the fountain. Moreover, the ever flowing water of the gigantic fountain is a potent symbol, because water is the essence of life in almost every culture.
