Col. M. Lewis Clark Jr., who was Col. M. Lewis Clark’s son, founded the Kentucky Derby. His father was the founder of Church Hill Downs. During the Kentucky Derby festivities, there are many different types of horse racing, which include Thoroughbred Horse Racing, Quarter Racing, and Harness Racing.

 

                          

The Kentucky Derby celebrated its 70th anniversary in 1944. The 1st place winner was the horse Pensive and the jockey was Conn McCreary; the owner was Calumet Farm. In 1974, it was the derby’s 100th anniversary. The winner was Cannonade ridden by Angel Cordero Jr. The Derby’s 129th anniversary was in 2003. Jose Santos rode the winner Funny Cide owned by Sackatoga Stables.
