First jazz band consisted of 2 sections one melodic
and one rhythm. The Melodic section included 1 or 2 cornets a trombone a
clarinet and sometimes even a violin. The Rhythm section included a string bass
drums and a guitar or banjo. Jazz was taken over by orchestras’ years later. A
society jazz band contained fifteen or more musicians. Now a days there is
renewed interest in the big band era even though the music has very little to
do with jazz.
