| The Digestive System has many steps and these are some of them. Step one: you chew the food. Then your saliva hits the food, which moistens it. The food then gets swallowed. Step two: the food is squeezed down your esophagus. The food goes into your stomach next. Step three: your food mixes with acid and then is churned in your stomach. Step four: acid and enzymes produced by the liver, pancreas, and the small intestines break down food. Your small intestine absorbs nutrients from the food. Step five; water and food pass through the large intestine. Water is absorbed by the large intestine for use in the body. Step six: solid waste (poop) is stored in the rectum from the large intestine. Step seven: muscles push solid waste out as feces. |
