Chloe
My name is Chloe. I’m 12 years old and a Grade 7 student, in my final year at Norwood Primary School in South Australia. I am part German and English, but was born in Australia. I have been fortunate enough to travel a lot in the last couple of years, mainly due to being involved in a professional singing choir here in Adelaide. We have travelled to Hong Kong and China for concerts, and will be performing in Japan next year. Since I’ve been learning Chinese at school from the age of five, it was great to be able to communicate a little while in China.
I have also been to the USA for a holiday and most recently to Thailand.
The first time I heard of ThinkQuest was when one of our school’s teachers, Tina, had just returned from San Francisco, where she was a chaperone for one of the students in a winning team. She showed my class some of her pictures and talked about how much fun she had overseas. Myself and some of my classmates asked for more information about joining the ThinkQuest team this year, and a few weeks later some of us wrote out an application saying how we could contribute to a team.
Later, when I was chosen to be part of the team, it was decided that I would be best used as a researcher, and my job was to research amazing facts and also common information on my animals: the emu, the wombat, the cockatoo and the possum. I was also responsible for taking a lot of the photos and video footage that you see on our site, some of the photos and video were shot here in South Australia, and others I shot at the Melbourne Zoo, on a recent trip with my choir when we performed in Melbourne, for the Commonwealth Games in March 2006.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. I learnt so much about the animals that I researched, as well as the animals that my fellow team members researched. It was fantastic being part of the team, all working, learning and problem solving together. During the process of getting the web site up and running, we ran into a few problems but luckily we had Eleanor from a school in Newcastle who was able to join us. Then, the person in our team who was working on the technical side of things withdrew, just before “crunch” time! Our school technician, Daniel, and his friend Mark, helped us learn how to make our web site, use links, resize photos and text and change backgrounds. This took many long afternoons, during our weekends and even school holidays!
This has been the best learning experience so far in my ThinkQuest journey.
I would particularly like to thank the following people for helping us so much in putting together our site…Carol, Tina, Robin, Daniel, Mark, Marissa, Sue, Heather, and of course all my fellow team mates. Back to Team Page
