Our Trip to the Adelaide ZooBy ChloeOn our website you will find many pictures and some video clips that I took at the Adelaide Zoo during a day trip there in March 2006. My favourite animal there, even though it wasn’t one that I had to research, was the Tasmanian Devil. I spent ages watching him just running around in circles, and never thought he was going to stop, until a huge jet, which was here for the opening of the Clipsal 500 car race that day, flew very low over our heads. It obviously scared him, because he just stopped, and looked around trying to find where this incredibly loud noise was coming from. It was then that I took some great photos and the video that you can watch on the Tasmanian Devil’s page. Later that day when I returned to the Tassie Devil, he was fast asleep inside a log, with hay bedding, and that’s when I took one of my favourite photos. Next was the echidna, and the zookeeper said that we were very lucky to see the echidna out and about that afternoon. I got some really good pictures and video of it, which you can also view, on the wombat page. I also asked him if the wombat was likely to come out of its burrow, but he said he doubted it as he hardly ever comes out. In the same enclosure were two koalas, both asleep, but since they sleep most of the day, that wasn’t a great surprise! As it was early in the morning, the zookeepers were showering them with a light mist of water. While I was shooting the video, I could plainly see how much the koalas enjoyed their early morning shower! In the nocturnal house, where there is no light except for a few red globes, we found another echidna, and a bilby. I couldn’t believe how much the bilby looked like a bunny; only cuter, hopping around, no wonder the bilby is competing against the rabbit for the mascot of Easter here in Australia! Easter Bunny or Easter Bilby, in Australia. We then found two kookaburras, and as one was sitting at the front of its cage, I fed it a couple of gum leaves, whilst filming, and unfortunately singing “kookaburra sits in the old gum tree…” a classic Australian bush song. (See lyrics below) I hope you enjoy the photos and video I took at the Adelaide Zoo, which you can view on the koala, Tasmanian Devil, bilby and wombat pages.
