Zeus the Koala and the Peace Odyssey

By Bethlehem Georgellis

This book is written and illustrated by a Greek author Bethlehem Georgellis who lives in Melbourne, Victoria. The book is about how the animals of the land of stars - Australia, try to find the golden egg of Peace. The Crocodile, the Great Bear and the Wild Tiger knew where the egg was but instead of helping the other animals they hid the egg in the centre of the earth.

The koala that lived in the land of the stars - Australia was a part of the contest as well. He visited the following countries - the land of the rising sun – Japan, The land of the Dragon - China; Land of the Ancient Olympics, Olympia – Greece, Land of the Icebergs – North Pole, and the Land of the Heat – Africa.

The story is interesting, creative and imaginative. I enjoyed reading the book. It explains how the crocodile didn’t help the other animals in the quest. He instead made things much harder for the animals by hiding the golden egg in the centre of the earth. The Koala believed in his dreams to find the egg and he hoped to find it as soon as possible.

At the end the koala found the golden egg of peace after a lot of searching.

It is also a very multicultural story as the koala’s name. Zeus was the name of an Ancient Greek God. Also, the koala visits other countries from around the world and we find out more about those countries.

We also find out that peace is peace wherever you live in the world.

The moral of the story is to work hard and truly believe in hope and goodness. Your dreams will surely become reality.
