The Kangaroos' Lucky Escape
Author: Rebecca Johnson
Photos: Steve Parish
This book is about a mob of kangaroos who escape from a fire with help from their rock wallaby friends.
The red kangaroo is the first to notice the danger; and so he hopped away to let the mob know that there was a fire.
The blaze of the fire grew stronger so the kangaroos headed away towards the rocks. The rock wallaby watched the kangaroos escaping and guided them towards an opening in the boulders.
When the mob of kangaroos made it to safety they had a long cool drink from the creek and joined the rest of the kangaroos.
The rock wallabies knew that all of the kangaroos were exhausted from their escape to safety.
The kangaroos were safe at last.
Conclusion: My understanding is that this book would probably be aimed at readers between the ages of 5-6. I believe that children would mostly read the books as a series for their school reading journal.
I think Steve Perish has put some really effective photos of the kangaroo in this book and it can give children a really good understanding of kangaroos, their habitat and behavior towards danger.
