African  Dragons

Apophis the Egyptian dragon of darkness, thunderstorm, lightning, whirlwinds, and sandstorms. Each day it tries to swallow the sun but Ra always wins the battle and the sun rises again. Apophis is usually described as a giant serpent.

Bida is one of the West African dragons who appears in one of the greatest Epics of Dausi. The story tells about a dieing king Dina who sent his oldest son to report to him about the kingship. The eldest son wouldn't do it but his youngest son was the only one who came and his name was Lagarre. The king told his son to find nine jars of water and when you were bathing in the water you become king. Then he told his son to Find the drum of Tabele and to ring it. When he did this a city came out of the sand with Bida encircling the city. This city was called Wagadoo. Lagarre made a deal with Bida to let him go into the city. Each year the city would sacrifice a girl to the dragon and in return he would give a lot of gold to them. Then one day, the dragon was killed by the lover of the girl. When Bida came out of the lake the lover of the girl cut off Bida’s head and threw it to the Gold Coast.
