Pagodas in Japan

One of the first great architectures in Japan were the pagodas. Soon after reaching China they also came to Japan. Most of the pagodas in Japan had to do with tranquility and peace. The pagodas in Japan were surrounded by beautiful gardens and ponds. Those kind of pagodas were called garden pagodas. They were mostly temples in which worshipping was done. They also had many floors. The oldest temple in Japan is called the Horyuji Goju no Tou. It stands to this day. Though it was destroyed in a fire in 670 A.D., it was rebuilt. Pagodas were so important to the Japanese that destruction couldn't stop them.
