What is a Marsh?

A marsh is a wetland submerged by water. The water may be a few inches deep to two or three feet. It provides traditional habitat for many birds like ducks, herons and shorebirds. Most marshes are low-lying areas around lakes, rivers and streams. They have grassy vegetation that can live and grow in the wet conditions. Higher ground also has trees and bushes that add to the diversity of food and shelter for wildlife.
