RACCOON

Raccoons are interesting animals. The name raccoon comes from the Native American tribe “Algonquin,” and means “He who scratches with his hands.” They have feet like hands so they can hold their food and sometimes dunk their food in water. They’re found almost everywhere. Its hair is colored in a pepper and salt mixture with a black mask over its eyes. They have a long bushy tail with rings. Adults usually weigh about 15 – 25 pounds, but can grow much larger. Raccoons can live up to six years. They find the high places in marshes to live, usually in hollow trees or rock crevices. They are omnivores, which means they eat everything! They eat plants, fruit, and berries. Also they eat insects, fish, frogs, turtles and eggs. They will also eat garbage if they can!
