American White Pelican         

     American White Pelicans are a newcomer to the marsh area, but have become a common sight around the Horicon Marsh. In 1992 The marsh had 30 pelicans come and stay for the whole summer. By 1995, there were 100 pelicans. In the year 2000 there was the first nesting. For the last 2 years there have been roughly 500 nesting pairs. Their length is 50 inches. Their wingspan is 110 inches. The adults have a long orange bill and a pouch. It flies with its neck tucked. Their white feathers and large size make them an exciting sight to see flying overhead.
