The length of the carp is 15 to 22 inches long. Its weight is 1 to 7 pounds. The carp’s coloring is dark olive green on the back with a yellowish belly. The common names for the common carp are German Carp, European Carp, Mirror Carp, and Leather Carp. Carp were first brought to North America from Europe in the early 1800’s as a food fish. The carp does have a negative impact on its environment. One reason the Marsh and the Rock River look really dirty is because of the carp. They stir up the muddy bottom looking for food, making the water brown with dirt. Finally, they are not a good fish for the marsh.
