Old and Young

Adult lobsters are found in cold water 6 to 120 feet deep but, younger lobsters stay in shallow water near the shore until they are mature to go on their own.

Although they are known as predators, as babies they are also prey. When full grown, lobsters have little to fear except traps used for hunting.
