More than 200 tanks that had six galleries and exhibits had to be filled
with saltwater or freshwater to fit the habitats of different sea animals. The
main exhibits include the Wild Reef, Pacific Northwest, Caribbean Reef, and
Amazon Rising. One
million gallons of saltwater was shipped from the Key West and most of the
freshwater came from Michigan but, today instead of shipping saltwater they make
their own mixture of saltwater. There are approximately 750 species of animals
at the Shedd Aquarium.
