Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was a major event that happened in 2005. It was a category
5 hurricane that developed over the Bahamas. It was one of the costliest
hurricanes ever. It damaged about $75 billion worth of property. The hurricane
caused lots of damage in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It also caused
some lives to be lost. About 1,600 people died. The reason why it caused so much
damage is because the storm surges caused a breach in the levees protecting New
Orleans, a city that is below sea level. This caused flooding in the city.
