Freedom of the Press

In the United States, the trial of John Peter Zenger is thought to be the start of freedom of the press, but when the first amendment was passed, it became official. Freedom of the press is the right to publish what you want without worrying about punishment for what you write. The first amendment says, "Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech or of the press."
