Coach DeGennaro believes that the most important thing is for
students to learn research skills by becoming experts in a particular topic that
is interesting to them. Students begin at the novice level and soon
realize that finding information at the expert level takes RESEARCH. This
means that students may have to search again, and again, and again, only to
return to that first article or information source with "new eyes".
Due to the cooperative group design, students must
hone their communication skills as they compromise and work together to "pull
their wagons" toward a common goal. This is a skill that is difficult for
many young children.
Coach Douthard believes that "each one, teach one" is the only way
technology truly belongs to the students. She enjoys dazzling our school
with the newest innovations in technology and is always ready to come to the aid
of someone in need. This year, Coach Douthard helped our ThinkQuest teams
learn to animate their own graphics using free software programs like Easy Gif
Animator, and to program animations in Flash.
Think Quest is a great program to help students master the goals of the
Fayette County Enrichment program and advance the technology skills of our staff
and students.
