Intro
Enhancing education has been one effect of Computer Mediated Communication. Unlike traditional classrooms, in which students are constrained to one time and place, learning over CMC is "asynchronous", meaning against time. The first such effort was known as the "Virtual Classroom (TM)", the brainchild of Dr. Starr Roxanne Hiltz. Interestingly enough, the EIES system on which the VC ran was created initially as a conferencing system. The VC concepts adapted themselves to the abilities of computerized conferencing, not the other way around (Not a system that was created specifically for Educational Purposes).
