Hi! We are
a group of 6 high school students from Hong Kong. We are
Grade 11 students at the Canadian International School of
Hong Kong, and we come from a variety of backgrounds, including
Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hong
Kong.
When we first discovered Thinkquest, we believed that it
shall be a valuable opportunity for us to expand our horizons
and extend our knowledge to students and educators around
the world. With our international background and perspectives,
we firmly understood that Thinkquest as a valuable opportunity
for us to not only advance our computer and web design skills,
but also to broaden our knowledge on a specialized academic
area. The large amount of content writing required for the
Thinkquest competition also gives us a worthwhile chance
to practice our skills of writing and to sharpen our rhetorical
style.
Topic selection was a large topic of debate during the early
stages of our project. Coming from very different and diversified
backgrounds, our group members suggested a variety of possible
topics, ranging from categories in art to issues in sociology.
Finally, after a long series of discussions between our
group and our Coach, we decided to embark on the topic of
Video Games.
We chose this topic due to three main reasons:
1. We, being active consumers of the video games industry,
are fairly familiar with the topic
2. We recognized the growing importance of video games in
the media industry, and its emergence as a major form of
entertainment in the current society.
3. As with any other new forms of technology, video games
came under constant fire from many different groups of people.
While we recognize the legitimacy of some of these accusations,
we nevertheless wish to provide people worldwide with a
more informed and objective perspective on the issue.
As you may have read in our site profile, our team faced
a number of ups and downs throughout the course of our project.
However, our faith in group collaboration and co-operation
has successfully assisted us in overcoming such obstacles.
After 4 months of rigorous academic research, in-depth analyses
of data, and careful polishing of rhetoric, we were finally
able to complete our site, Gamefest: The Limitless Revolution.
Dedicating it to the pioneers of the video games industry,
we wish that our website would become a portal for students
and educators to explore the unlimited world of video gaming
in the future and beyond.
