Ramayana is an epic of mythological
import. It is now being read as religious text by more than a billion
people. Ramayana has been the source of inspiration throughout the history
of South East Asian countries. The kings of Thailand were called Rama.
Ramakeerti the Thai Ramayana was composed in 17th century and is studied
by all children in schools. The world's largest Ramayana painting is in
the Emerald Buddha Temple. Thai Boxing is based on the skills
of Hanuman, Vali and Sugreeva.
In Malaysia the government officers take their oath
by uttering the words "URUSAN SERI PDULA BEGINDA" which means by the
orders of Rama's Paduka. The Malayan version of Ramayana "Hikayat
Seri Rama" composed in the 13th century is a text book in the
universities.
In Indonesia the largest Muslim country of the
world has a big Hanuman statue in its military head quarters.
The parades are done in front of the statue and the officers also take
their oath of office here. When Pakistan President Gen. Zia
questioned the officials, they explained "that they have only changed their religion not their culture or
their forefathers".
To us young Sanatanists it teaches obedience to our parents and
kindness to all things created.
