Of all the mythological works we studied the most intriguing was the incarnations of God Vishnu who is the Protector in the Holy Trinity of “Brahma” ,the Creator, Shiva the Destroyer.

Every incarnation of the Lord happens in one ‘Yuga’ which is equal to Millions and Millions of years in time .We read that there are ten recorded incarnations and each one is narrated in a Mythological story. Out of these the incarnations of Rama and Krishna have been recorded in epic proportions by sages ’Valmiki’ and ‘Vyasa’.These are the ones named Ramayana and Mahabharatha.

The sequence of the avatars seems to follow the accepted process of evolution. The Matsya avatar, a fish like incarnation tallies with life originating in water. ‘Kurma Avatar ,Tortoise in appearance matches the first steps on to the land, then on proceeds to incarnations in the shapes of Boar,Lion, half human, humanoid and fully civilized Rama, Krishna and finally the termination of one cycle of creation ‘Kalki’.

The Lord Vishnu himself says that He takes form in every ‘Yuga’ (eon) when the evil takes ascendancy in the world and the meek are hopelessly suppressed to destroy the oppressors and save the righteous. This message found in Bhagavat Gita which is a chapter in the epic ‘Mahabharata’.

For us Sanatanists, the stories of the Lord’s incarnation are a lesson in itself and a hope in ourselves. We learn that by walking a straight path we walk with Him and deviants are to be taken care of by Him and we need bear no anger or violence when faced with arrogance, egotism or unkind people.
