Battle of Shiloh

On April 6, 1861 The Battle of Shiloh broke out.  There were a total of 63,000 Union Soldiers and 40,000 Confederate Soldiers in the magnificent battle.  General Grant and his forces were cornered and nearing defeat when reinforcements arrived over night.  When the sun rose it was the Confederates who had their backs to the wall.  The Confederates retreated on the morning of April 7 and had suffered many casualties.  A total of 13,000 Union soldiers and 11,000 Confederate soldiers perished.
