Kinds of Salmon (continued)

Coho Salmon
Also known as blueback, silver, ginmaru, and kizhuch. They range from coastal California streams to Norton Sound in Alaska and from Hokkaido to Anadyr River, Russia. Their life cycle is similar to that of an Atlantic salmon: they stay in freshwater for 1-2 years, and females lay 3,500 eggs. Most Coho stay in the sea for 2 years and get in their serious growing in the second year.

Chinook Salmon
Also known as king, spring, masunosuka, and chavycha. They are the least abundant of all the Pacific salmon. They range from the Venura River in southern California to Point Hope in Alaska on the eastern rim, and from Hokkaido to the Anadyr River on the Asian side. Females lay 5,000 eggs. Fry migrate to sea after about 120 days and spend 1-5 years at sea. On the west coast of the United States, Chinook are popular for sport fishing.
