Temperature

Water temperature is very important for a salmon's survival. Salmon require a certain amount of oxygen relative to their weight. This oxygen is called "available dissolved oxygen", or ADO. As water temperature increases, ADO decreases. Good quality water is expected to contain about 100% dissolved oxygen saturation, so obviously the water can't be too hot.

Since temperature is such an important factor of smolts production and profitability, a lot of attention is paid to getting the right water temperature. Salmon need a certain amount of warmth to stay alive, but they also need a certain amount of ADO, which is closely tied to water temperature. Getting the right ratio is crucial for a successful business. Eggs, especially, require careful temperature control of the tank.
