The Team

Evan
Mr. Harris first proposed the concept of participating in ThinkQuest to Evan. Evan quickly got to work. He was the main programmer for the site, creating the Salmon Farm Game, the Salmon Dissection Game, the External Anatomy Game, and many other games as well. He designed the CSS and the JavaScript for the rollovers as well. Evan is a student at U-connect School and lives in Abbotsford.

Cory
Cory did many odd jobs in the site. His main contribution was the Salmon Survival Game, which was created with Evan’s help. He also made other smaller games and animations and did much of the writing for the site. Some of his many other tasks included inserting the content into the Web pages and some HTML work. Cory resides in Langley and is part of Aldergrove Christian Academy.

Brendan
Brendan provided most of the graphics for the site. He created the site’s banner and provided graphics for both the Salmon Farm Game and especially the Salmon Survival Game. Like Evan, Brendan is also a student at U-connect School and lives in Abbotsford.

Charis
Charis provided the cross-cultural aspects of the site. She contributed several essays and did large amounts of research, as well as taking the Uzbek photos. Charis lives with her family in Uzbekistan.

Mr. Harris
Mr. Harris was our team coach. His past experience made him the perfect person to guide us. Mr. Harris's main job was to help us stay focused, and offered constructive input and much encouragement as we worked to build this site. His knowledge of programs like Poser, Flash, Bryce, Photoshop and others was a source of help and instruction for all of us. Mr. Harris is a teacher at U-connect School.

Collaboration

Since we all lived quite a distance apart, we had to develop creative ways of getting our various contributions together. Collaborating with Charis was our biggest challenge; because she lives in Uzbekistan, communication has been very difficult. We relied on email most often to share ideas and shared our files using Breeze. Later we posted our content on an FTP site. We would all test each other's content and make suggestions for improvement so that our whole team had input into the content. Charis’s perspective added greatly to the global viewpoint of our site. Her content on the Aral Sea provides a good balance between salmon farming in the West and the differences that are faced across the world.

One of the most memorable moments of collaborating for our team was the dissection of the salmon for the Dissection Game. It was a messy experience and one we are not likely to forget. Cory's hours of hard work transformed the photos from this activity into the Dissection Game.

Another highlight was the creation of the Salmon Survival Game. Evan and Cory collaborated to develop the game concept and then worked out the code to get the salmon moving. Brendan’s use of Bryce graphics and his drawings of the predators were essential in adding graphical dimensions to the game.

Besides the graphics for the Salmon Survival Game, Brendan contributed maps to the Salmon Farm Game and created the banner for our site. His expertise in Photoshop, Poser and Bryce was invaluable for perfecting the many images used in our games and our site.

As the deadline for our site submission drew closer, we realized just how much needed to be done to complete our site. We saw the site transform from many pieces of loose content into a cohesive and compelling site. We had to place our text into logical headings, enhance the visual aspect of our site with the addition of pictures, and organize our media and games into their correct positions. There were many bugs to be worked out along the way, and hours of hard work from everybody to get the site just right. While Evan was putting the finishing touches on his games, Cory was rushing to get pages together, and Brendan was ensuring that we were supplied with all the graphics we needed.

We want to acknowledge Mr. Harris for his cheerful support, encouragement, and the direction he offered as we worked together on this project. We finish with a sense of satisfaction. We are happy with our work and very grateful for the opportunity to be part of this Think Quest Challenge.
