GENERAL HELP

Your object is to guide a young salmon from hatching to the ocean, through the first three stages of its development: the Alevin stage, the Fry stage, and the Smolt stage. There are also three other stages: the Egg stage, before the salmon is hatched; the Adult stage, after the salmon has reached the ocean; and the Spawning stage, whent the salmon is ready to mate. None of these stages are included.

THE STAGES:

Alevin Stage. An alevin is a newly-hatched salmon. These ugly fish are small, weak, and very vulnerable. Hanging below their belly is a yolk sac full of egg yolk, which the alevin feeds off of. This stage can last up to four months. When the yolk sac runs out, the baby salmon must find its own food. At this point it is known as a fry.Alevin

Fry Stage. At this stage, the fish noses around looking for food, usually live insects or fish eggs. Fry will either head straight for the ocean or stay in the stream for another year, depending on the species.Fry

Smolt Stage. During this stage the salmon starts to undergo major physical changes; these changes are known as "smolting". The fish must adapt to the saltwater in the coastal esuaries it inhabits, where ocean saltwater meets stream freshwater. The fish is now very close to its object, the Ocean. When it gets there, it will become a full-fledged adult salmon!Smolt
