Meet Our Team

Abigail - I enjoy playing the cello and piano, participating in the Semiahmoo Strings (a local youth strings orchestra), dancing, swimming, and most importantly spending time with my brother, two sisters, and parents. In making this website, I have learned an incredible amount. I was introduced to Microsoft Frontpage, expanded my knowledge using Poser, and had a wonderful opportunity to utilize Flash. The research I did on killer whales was fascinating and I had great fun putting the web pages together with my teammates. A huge task I took on was directing the composition of graphics and content. Caleb, Madeline, Viola and I worked together and online to accomplish these two components. I am very proud of our site and am glad to have had the opportunity to work on a team for Thinkquest

Caleb - I live in Richmond, B.C. Canada. I like to play many types of sports and my favorite is soccer. I have played for 7 years and last year my team came second in our rep league. I am home schooled and have studied computer science at Lochiel U-Connect.  I have been studying programming for three years and I had great fun working on the games. I used Macromedia Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8.  Besides preparing for Thinkquest, I also make games for fun and will be constructing my own website after the competition. I met many challenges while writing the code for the games. One example was getting the shark to chase the orca in the Orca survival game. Almost every game had a bug of some sort. We used Breeze, an online video conferencing program to brainstorm and problem solve. Thanks to this competition my teamwork and computer skills have improved. I enjoy being part of a team and working together to make something great!

Madeline - One of my primary passions outside of school is music.  It has been a joy to learn to play the harp and the piano.  Along with music, I have enjoyed activities such as dance, swimming, and synchronized skating.  For this project, I have had the opportunity to work with team members possessing diverse skills and varied geographic origins in order to complete a website.  In the early stage of the process, I concentrated on drawing many of the pictures, with Viola creating the others.  Having participated in a digital photography course for two years and numerous other computer courses involving Adobe Photoshop, I was very involved in the graphical design.  I also provided advice and assistance with the written content.  I am very proud of our team’s accomplishments, and grateful for the opportunity to participate in this project.

Viola - I am from Finland.  I am ten years old and like making handicrafts and drawing.  I live in a very busy household as I have ten siblings and two parents.  For this site, I worked with Madeline to create the pictures. I painted two water colors and helped to make artistic decisions. Although I could not be in the presence of the rest of my team, I enjoyed contributing to this site on orcas.

Mr. Harris - I am the coach for this amazing group of young web designers.  I gave  technical assistance to the team, especially helping to troubleshoot the many "bugs" inevitably plague a project of this magnitude. I also helped to set up the online collaboration software we used for our dozens of virtual meetings.  Along with keeping the technology working, I also helped to proof-read the site and get the files transferred to the Thinkquest web server.
