HAIR SAMPLES

A  person's hair strand left at a crime scene can show that person's DNA, which nobody else has and can tell a lot  about that person. Hair discovered at a crime scene can be very useful for scientists. If a scientist finds a hair strand they can send it to the lab for analyzing. A strand of hair is composed of three layers:

Scientists first have to find out  if a hair is a human or animal hair. If it is human hair they will compare it with suspicious suspects to see if it matches up.  If it is animal they can sometimes define what animal species it is. Tests use DNA to make a DNA profile for a sampled hair. Then they compare this profile to other sampled hair to see if they are the same.  Hair DNA is better than getting blood samples done because it is faster and cheaper than blood samples
