The Tammar (scrub) Wallaby is found in southwestern and south Australia. They are also found in desert or semi-desert habitats.

They are the smallest wallaby in size. Their tail is less than 13 inches and the head and body together are less than 18 inches. They live to be about 9 years old. Their young weigh only about 0.01 ounces when born.

A tammar was the first "kangaroo" like animal to be seen by people from the west. They were discovered in 1629 by a crew on a Dutch ship stranded near the Wallaby Islands. One hundred and forty years after Captain Cook officially discovered them when he arrived in Australia. Some are extinct, and the rest are endangered.
