Giant Panda

The giant panda is one of the worlds most rarest animal and lives in China. The giant panda mostly lives in the bamboo forests in the high up mountains. It often stays on the ground, and sometimes climbs up to the trees to play and sleep in the sun, or to stay away from predators. It feeds on bamboo shoots, bamboo leaves, and tender bamboo as well as fruit and small animals such as bamboo rats.

The giant panda lives with others only during mating season period. A female panda makes there dens in tree hollows or rocky clefs where she will give birth to her babies. The male panda leaves right after mating and takes no care of the babies. Often only one of the 2 cubs born will grow up in the wild. With a low reproductive rate, its population growth is threatened and is now showing decrease. Therefore, this rare species must be protected.
